The 1880s with a ginger twist
(Hiatus will end when finals are done with!)
Things about me Talk to me Submit I guess?
Here it is! I’m not 100% sure if I like how it came out… it almost seems a bit too cutesy for the subject. Maybe I just like drawing cute clothes and bright colours too much!
This is for a contest with the Canadian Human Rights Agencies for their conference in May. All the Advanced Illustration students and Design students had to enter as part of their final. Kinda pissed that they required us to print it off at 24 x 36…. which I think is way too big and expensive ($50!!) for most students and their budget. We don’t even get to keep the posters. And the top prize is only $200. I feel kinda ripped off. :/

I had to do self portrait things for class, and the directions where, ” Use your scanner to scan a body part”
So I splashed watercolors down and smushed my face all over it.

Looking for LGBTQ* artists for show in Northern VA area
Hey everyone! I’m working with the LGBTQ* Resource office and TQ Mason (our trans* focused Student Org) at my University, George Mason University, to put together an art show for our Pride Week (which is April 1 - 7th). While I’ve been advertising as much as I can, we haven’t gotten many submissions!
The show is open to anyone within the LGBTQ* community who’s able to transport their work to GMU in time for the show. This means the entire community; in particular, I was hoping to showcase submissions from ignored and lesser known parts of the community (such as people of trans* history, asexuality, polyamorous folk, and others who are typically not talked about). I especially hope to have artists that are people of color and other intersecting or invisible minorities.
While the show does have a theme (gender), this theme wasn’t chosen to turn anyone away. Rather, it was chosen as a jumping-off point and way to bring contributing artists under a common idea. Like most themes, artists are free to stretch this as far as it will go.
This show is intended to showcase artistic expressions and ideas from the queer community, and to give visibility to both Pride Week and the artists involved. I really want to see it succeed, and if we do get enough submissions, I hope to continue the show in coming years. We’re also working with another office on campus to potentially have the show up for longer than just Pride Week! (In this case, the show will be up from March 25 - April 7)
All forms of art will be considered, from photography, painting and drawing, to sculpture and video pieces. This being said, because of the location we have, any non-traditional pieces will be accepted on a case-by-case basis depending on what we can set up. We will also be asking contributing artists for an optional short statement about their artwork.
If you are interested in contributing, the deadline is March 18th. If there is an issue with either the deadline or transportation, we can definitely work something out. But you need to get in contact with us before the deadline.
To contact us with questions, contributions, or comments, please email us at tqartshow@gmail.com
If you are submitting a piece, please send a picture of the artwork, information about the piece, your preferred name and contact email. We will get in contact with you as soon as we can.
You can also drop a message in my inbox if you have questions or comments, but please only submit artwork through the email.
Thanks for your consideration!!
I promise this is the last time I’m reblogging this! We are really lacking in submissions, so I would seriously really appreciate passing the info on to anyone people think would be interested. Being in an art show is a really cool experience (and nice on resumes). More importantly, I really want to give people the opportunity to share their experiences with people who wouldn’t normally check out something like this.
I just really don’t want this to fall apart just because we didn’t get enough artwork.
